Amy Kuschel's Shop Small Holiday Gift Guide

SHOP SMALL Holiday Gift Guide

Hello friends,

GIFT GIVING for the HOLIDAZE can be a bit overwhelming for you and our planet, too. Supporting small businesses and giving quality gifts that aren't destined for landfill really sparks joy. Here's a list of my favorite ethical and sustainable choices for shopping small this holiday season:

Shop second hand at Neutral Ground. Alysha has an eye for hip, sexy neutral VINTAGE pieces that stand the test of time. Get 20% off with code GRATITUDE thru 12/1.

Check out Castlecliff for ethical remakes of vintage jewerly from the 60's and 70's as well as one-of-a-kind pieces. Stephanie knows how to channel a big mood with Halston vibes, plus 30% off with code THANKS30.

WOLL jewelry is another fave. Liz makes fabulous hairpins and earrings that are playful, artsy, and plant-based. Use code HOLIDAY2020 for free shipping.

Cocoacentric has a collection of handmade, curated jewelry. I have a pair of LaToya's tortoise hoops that I adore. Use code GRATITUDE25 for 25% off.

Olivia at MANE MESSAGE designs and curates wonderful hair accessories. I especially love her headbands and wear them all the time. She also has cute barettes and vintage finds. Use code CHEERS for 25% off.

I'd be a lame biz owner if I didn't plug AMY KUSCHEL. Our sustainable face masks make perfect gifts and awesome stocking stuffers. Buy 3, get the 4th free with code GIVETHANKS thru Nov 29th.

My friend Bridget is the founder of FILBERT bags. The Stanyan tote is one of my all-time faves - it's luxe, cruelty-free, and mindfully made. PLUS: stylish.

Talented, local designer TAYLOR JAY makes sexy, comfy work-from-home clothes in Oakland, CA! Use code BLK2020 for 40% off select items.

I'm a clog lover, so naturally, I crush hard on Isobel and her team at BRYR. They create super hip, handmade clogs made right here in San Francisco. I have 3 pairs, all of which were holiday gifts to myself!  BONUS POINTS: they're redistributing 10% of sales from 11/26-29 as part of reclaim collaborative's effort to take reclaim Black Friday.

B E A U T Y  +  H O M E

Hannah Beatrice Quinn makes gorgeous handmade brooms. And cool bookends from repurposed steel extrusions. Her brooms actually make me want to sweep the whole house.

Earthling Co is your resource for plastic-free beauty products. Their shampoo and conditioning bars are AMAZING - and they make wonderful holiday gifts. No code needed to save 25% off through 11/30.

Package Free Shop has an incredible selection of zero waste, carbon neutral products with plastic free packaging. My favorite find are the wool dryer balls by Friendsheep. Their selection of sustainable goods is impressive. Plus, 25% off site wide!

Little Apple Treats: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their apple cider vinegar shrubs for making sparkling spritzers or homemade salad dressings. They're great hostess gifts, too. Use code HOLIDAYTREATS15 for 15% off thru 11/30.

Stonehouse Olive Oil is our go-to olive oil. They also have THE BEST spice blends (OMG, olio aglio, and Napa Valley blend are our faves) to use as rubs on your veggies, fish - or just add a generous pinch to a dipping bowl with olive oil.

For earthy clay goods check out Koide Studio. My family LOVES Kiyomi's collection of speckled mugs, bowls, plates and planters. She offers free shipping within the USA.

A crafting workshop from Jenny Lemons is perfect for the creative peeps on your list. 25% off everything with code SUPPORTSMALL thru 11/30.

If you know someone interested in meditation, the MindBodyGreen's essential guide to meditation with Charlie Knoles is incredible. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

For outdoorsy, sporty types, I love kayaking and SUP on the bay at Sea Trek in Sausalito. Organizing a nature hike is a beautiful gift, too.

Books make wonderful gifts, you just have to know your audience. A giftcard from a local bookseller is a thoughtful option. My favorite bookshop is The Book Passage - there's one in Marin and in the SF Ferry building. will help you find a local, independent bookstore in your area. I also love finding used books at

Given this crazy year, you might consider Light Watkin's Bliss More book. It's a wonderful read for beginning meditators. While you're at it, sign up for his inspiring daily emails, they're free.

If you know me, you know I'm always reading a Thich Nhat Hanh book. I recommend his books to anyone looking for a daily mindfulness practice. Peace is Every Step is a great place to start. You can also give a gift to his sangha.

Happy Holidays!

With peace and love,

California Dreaming

California Dreaming

Our 2017 collection is inspired by California Dreaming.
The easy, breezy vibe of our beach towns.
The glamour, intrigue, and elegance of Hollywood.
The optimism of San Francisco. Wine country: for its beauty, charm, and romance.
And the natural drama and wonder of our glorious coastlines,
calming mountains and majestic forests.
It’s a golden state - where everything is possible.
Our 2017 line-up is infused with this energy along with our signature iconic style and approachable charm.
We hope you enjoy the collection as much as we enjoyed designing it for you!
Book your appointment for the official launch in our San Francisco flagship the first weekend in November!
